AKUMAL
Bay of TurtlesIn
the Mayan language Akumal means, “Land of Turtles”, and
as its name suggests it is preferred by these marine
animals as a place for laying their eggs. This small
village, which in May 2009 celebrated its 50th
anniversary, is known for being tranquil and for showing
great respect for nature. Its major attraction is its
crystal clear bay, ideal for sailing in a catamaran. An
excellent option for swimming and snorkelling is the
Yalku lagoon, where there is a fresh water spring with
lots of tropical fish.
We recommend you stay in one of the ocean view, private
villas and enjoy the excellent food of the Qué Onda
restaurant, which offers traditional Italian cooking
with fresh ingredients and home made pastas. Try the
Cozze pasta served with mussels, garlic, parsley and
white sauce, or the Viva México with shrimp and poblano
and serrano chiles.
In Lol Ha you can eat
everything from a special hamburger, to Yucatecan snacks
or delicious seafood dishes such as shrimps wrapped in
bacon and stuffed with cheddar cheese. Nearby is Oscar &
